Do Alms in Secret and You’ll Be Blessed by God — A Commentary on Matthew 6:3–4
Thoughts on Today’s Verse…
Through these Bible verses, the Lord Jesus taught us: When we do good deeds, we shouldn’t worry that others won’t know it, much less should we fear that God won’t know it. We should only do everything we can to do well what we should do, for God observes all things, and throughout heaven and earth, there is not a single person or thing that is not beheld in the eyes of God, let alone our thoughts and ideas. Jeremiah 17:10 says, “I Jehovah search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.” God’s words say, “God is silent, and has never appeared to us, yet His work has never stopped. He surveys the whole earth, and commands all things, and beholds all the words and deeds of man.” Though we cannot see or touch God, God knows our thoughts, and surveys our words and deeds. Thus, whether we do alms or support and help others, we should do it before God rather than do it before others to flatter them, much less should we think God not know it and then we don’t do it. It is because our Father in heaven is always watching our heart in secret.
