Psalm 29:11 — Facing Adversity With God
The LORD will give strength to his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace.
– Psalm 29:11
Thoughts on Today’s Verse…
This verse encourages many people who are in adversity. It reminds us that do not despair even though we feel there’s no way ahead. For God is always with us. He will give us strength, joy, and peace. We can face adversity with God. The Bible recorded that Elijah the prophet hid himself by the brook Cherith, east of the Jordan to evade the persecution of Ahab according to the instructions of God. Elijah drunk from the brook but had no food to eat. God arranged for the ravens to bring him bread and meat in the morning and the evening, so Elijah didn’t worry about food. A few days later, the brook dried up, then God sent Elijah to a widow’s home. It was recorded in the Bible that the widow had only a handful of flour and a little oil, and they would have no food after they finished this meal. However, Elijah confidently asked the widow to make a cake for him and said, “For thus said the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sends rain on the earth” (1 Kings 17:14). Later, things turned out to be exactly as Jehovah God had said: The flour in the jar was not used up, nor did the oil in the jug fail after they ate many days.
Dear brothers and sisters, perhaps you are in adversity or hardships and worry that no one can help you, but do remember to pray because God is at our side. If we face all these by relying on God, He will surely feed us like feeding Elijah. I’d like to share a passage of words that inspires my faith: “Almighty God dominates all things and events! So long as our hearts look up to Him at all times and we enter into the spirit and associate with Him, then He will show us all the things we seek and His will is sure to be revealed to us; our hearts will then be in joy and peace, steady with perfect clarity. It is crucial to be able to act according to His words; being able to grasp His will and living in dependence on His words — only this is true experience.”
